  • The Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC) is a publicly funded institution that conducts research and promotes innovation over a wide range of energy related science and technology fields. Its Thermal Energy and Building Performance Research Group has wide expertise in dynamic energy simulation and the implementation of energy efficiency strategies and the integration of renewables in buildings and districts.

  • With a staff of more than 1,400, the Austrian Institute of Technology AIT is the largest non-university research institute in Austria. It is leading the way in innovation and playing a key role at a European level as the research and technology institute that focuses on the major challenges of the future, such as decarbonisation and digitisation, as well as on the key infrastructure topics of the future.

  • CICLICA Arquitectura is an SME cooperative based in Barcelona with strong expertise in the field of energy, focusing on urban regeneration, the decarbonisation of building stock, as well as developing energy models for buildings. CICLICA also emphasizes on developing web platforms for public administrations and citizens that facilitate decision making and participation.

  • Headquartered in Trondheim, the internationally oriented Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is the largest university in Norway. It hosts 14 faculties and 70 departments and divisions with more than 43,000 students. Three out of its four Strategic Research Areas – Sustainability, Energy and Health – contribute directly to sustainable urbanization.

  • R2M – Research to Market Solution – is an Italian multi-disciplinary innovation company that aims at filling the gap between research activities and market implementation across the fields of Engineering, Energy Services, Sustainability, and ICT/Automation. R2M will contribute with its expertise on cities and district energy modelling, with a focus on the analysis of the PV potential, energy communities, smart grids and demand response.

With a strong focus on sustainability, its Department of Architecture hosts a highly interdisciplinary team from the fields of technology, physics, economy, engineering, urban planning and participatory design among others. Through close collaboration with the university’s laboratories, is has a particularly strong digital expertise

Organising Europe’s largest events for urban sustainability, its formats inspire, motivate, guide and connect a large international community of urban decision-makers, leaders, administrators, and influencers.   • With a population of close to 130,000 inhabitants, the Norwegian City of Bærum is the country’s fifth largest municipality. It has the highest income per capita and the highest proportion of university-educated individuals in Norway. Bærum has a strong sustainability track-record, including the internationally acclaimed Fornebu redevelopment, Norway’s largest urban development project at the time.

  • The town of Civitavecchia is located in the Rome Metropolitan Area, about 60km north of Rome. With its 60,000 inhabitants Civitavecchia is not big, however the city is home to one of the most important cruise and ferry ports in central Italy. Within its San Liborio district, A.T.E.R. is developing a positive energy housing project for about 1,000 tenants which includes the creation of a Citizen Energy Community.

    The municipality of Sant Esteve de Palautordera is located in the Barcelona Province, about 55km north-east of the City of Barcelona. With excellent mobility connections it has become a destination for rural housing development away from the buzzing metropolis, effectively doubling the number of homes in the past 20 years. This growth makes sustainability considerations increasingly critical.
